Well, It all started 2 weeks ago when we were separately approached and was asked to secretly do a bio graph on each other. Not knowing that the other was doing the same. So from my perspective I went to the Scout Office and collected all of Doug's scout info. Positions held and when, Rank etc. They also wanted his hobbies and what he has done for the community. I turned it in and was asked to get him to the Banquet with out telling him WITH his uniform on. Yeah! I made plans for the neighbor kids that I had 24/7 that week and I took Dex to my parents so Doug and I could go on a date. Wink, Wink. I put his uniform in the back of the car and off we went. I was set. Doug had no idea. When we got to the church the parking lot was empty. I pretended to call my brother to ask what restaurant we were supposed to go to. The person informed me that the Banquet was next week and it is on Friday not Saturday. So we went on a real date. I'm thinking, "Good thing Doug has know idea what I just did." For the next week I couldn't use the same excuse so what I did was our Stake was doing a mock emergency to see how their plans would do and mentioned that some of us might get a phone call. So, I told Doug that I got a recording saying that we were needed at the church in our uniforms. And how I thought it was dumb and I didn't want to wear mine. For the second time I had successfully taken Doug to the church with his uniform. We went in and sat at our table. The person that had asked me to do this was sitting in the back of the room with the 1st Counselor of our ward. I had informed him of how successful I was. Again. He laughed. We enjoyed our dinner then they started to read the bio sketches of the nominees. We sat and listened (kind of) as they were read. One of them I was able to relate to so I listened closer. They had listed all the things they liked to do at camp. I was thinking that it weired that they put that in there. Then they continued, "Her hobbies include pottery and painting. She can make anything out of card board, and she has been nick-named by some as the card board queen." I looked around and some of the district people were looking at me. When I realised what was going on I looked at Doug and he had this huge smile. I did not want to go up. Doug was the one who was supposed to be up there not me. I was not even going to look back at the ward members because I knew that they were just living it up for getting me. They knew that I wouldn't have come nor participated if I knew it had something to do with me. I was only there to support my husband. I had to go up and sit on stage with the rest of the nominees and their spouses. The announcer is also in our ward and in on it too. So he mentioned to everyone that he was in trouble as I reluctantly walked up. As Doug and I sat down up front I leaned over and said that this was supposed to be for him. I was dumb founded. They eventually got to Doug's and the meeting was over. But not before pictures with everyone. On our way home I asked Doug what had happened. Doug said that he was asked to get the info on me. I asked him if he knew he was getting an award also and he said that he had figured it out when I was trying to get him to the church before he had a chance to try and convince me to do the same thing. He just sat back and let me do all the work. He even had the nerve to say that he didn't want to go and that he just wanted to stay home so I would have to work even harder to get him there. I just hit him then and there. I was so embarrassed. Plus to make this worse for my pride, this all started with a neighbor that I haven't been neighborly or supportive as a ward member as I should have. And they were nominating me for this award of service. It was a little humbling for me. I guess I have a ego to let go of and a Thank You card to write.
Doug and I were both nominated for the 2008 Award of Merit from the Island View District, Trapper Trails Council, BSA and they were presented on Saturday January 31,2009.
